What do breakdancers, wine and historic buildings have in common? We’re not exactly sure. However, all three were on display this past Friday at the Taste of Historic Downtown Miami, an annual event presented by the Downtown Miami Partnership, Dade Heritage Trust and Miami Center for Architecture and Design in celebration of Dade Heritage Days. Some say that Miami is a very young city, which may be true in terms of years. But what we lack in age we make up for in diversity and unexpectedness. You never have to go very far in Miami to experience an eclectic mix of old and new, varied cultural experiences and of course, good food.

This year Buskerfest Miami was very happy to be a part of the Taste of Historic Downtown festivities. Three of our Buskerfest Alum, Elianto Quintet, Funky Serve Bots Crew and Somewhat Hungover, performed to entertain locals and tourists who were exploring Downtown Miami. It was a beautiful Friday night and participants were free to wander in and out of historic buildings learning a little about their history, grab bites prepared by local vendors and soak up Miami’s special vibe. The stopping points included the Olympia Theater at Gusman Center, The Historic Alfred I DuPont Building, The Ingraham Building, Lost Boy Dry Goods,  Havana Coffee & Tea Company, La Epoca (which is much more than a department store, we learned), Miami Center for Architecture and Design, and the Security Building (home to DASS and the CU-1 Gallery).

It was a perfect mid-April evening, resulting in one of those Miami experiences that is a reminder of our young but thoroughly interesting history, mixed with good music, good food and good people. We can’t wait till next year!

Much Love,

The Buskerfest Team
