Next week is all about the Book Fair (baby), but there’s plenty to do before Downtown Miami is inundated with towers of tomes. We really had to do some sifting this weekend – there is no doubt we are in peak event season mode. Here are our choices for funz this weekend.
Friday, November 10
Miami Motel Stories: Little Havana, Tower Hotel
Is this the real life; is this just fantasy? That is the question as you wander from room to room of the Tower Hotel in Little Havana. Juggerknot Theatre presents a series of vignettes where you play a starring role as you hear tales of LH’s past, present and perhaps future. It’s a truly unique theatrical experience that you’d better get before it’s gone. The official run ends this weekend, but word is they may be extending it for one more week. Tickets are $25-40 depending on how deep down the rabbit hole you want to go…
Saturday, November 11
Choose Your Sound, UM Student Center, 7-11PM
Guitars Over Guns empowers Miami’s youth through innovative music education programs. Their annual gala, dubbed Choose Your Sound, is this Saturday at UM. Enjoy food and drink plus feature performances by GOGO alumni, faculty and current students. The fundraiser is a great way to dip your toes in the philanthropy pool – a pool that is way cooler than the Standard Hotel’s pool and does not just your body, but your soul good as well. Individual tickets are available for $150.
FEAST Miami #9, Miami Light Project, 8PM
FEAST Miami has been hosting vegan dinners whose proceeds fund artistic projects for the past few years. Saturday’s dinner is the final such event where you can enjoy drinks, vegan bites and vote for your favorite of three finalist projects. Join past winners, panelists and finalists for a ‘series finale’ in Wynwood’s most established venue. Tickets are $25 and for now, still available.
Sunday, November 12
Average Joe Sunday Market, Yo Space Gallery and Studios, 4-7PM
Affordable original artworks. You don’t have to be a millionaire to take home quality pieces and YOMiami’s Average Joe Market is the perfect place to start your collection. This edition also features live music by Madrina, a beer fueled drink and draw, plus vintage video games. It’s the perfect wine-down following the excitement of Saturday night.
