Miami native Inez Barlatier is a multifaceted artist of Ayisyen (Haitian) descent. The young singer/songwriter/guitarist/percussionist/dancer/actress and instructor has been growing as an artist since she began performing at age 12.
With her first band Kazoots, Inez and her bandmates evolved from their fathers’ Haitian folkloric ensemble, mixed with next-generation influences. Going solo in 2016 allowed her further exploration, as she embraces history and heritage, finding inspiration from African, Afro-Caribbean and Afro-Latin cultures. Inez’s incredible vocal delivery organically flows between an ancestral guttural bellow to an airy angelic falsetto, full of energy. She invites comparisons with revered artists like Tracy Chapman, Adele, Shakira, Joan Armatrading, and Norah Jones.
Inez has toured the United States, Haiti, Central America and Cuba with various ensembles: Kazoots, Jan Sebon & Kazak International, Venus Rising Women’s Drum and Dance, FundArte, Tom Tom Magazine and One Drum. She recently showcased her main stage solo debut as part of FundArte’s El Barrio series, and was awarded as a Knight Foundation 2017 Knight Arts Champion. Her music will be featured on Complex TV’s new hit show ‘Grown.’
